Wrapping up
Dec. 2nd, 2025 02:49 pmI've been working on finishing up some long term projects and it feels good to have some small wins.
( Spinning, decoupage and weaving with beads (but not bead weaving that's a whole other thing) )
Same Pendant, New Look
Nov. 26th, 2025 05:47 pm
I had three of these slides which I decided to use as center pendants, and have made several different necklaces with it. This was a softer one made for a friend who likes metal and stone in her jewelry.

Fandom Necklaces
Nov. 12th, 2025 12:02 pm
Although a number of necklaces I make have themes, some are inspired by types of fandoms or specific ones.
Although I have made other steampunk pieces with more direct allusions to machinery, I wanted to go more elegant with this one. The Steampunk heart above was a wide pendant though, so I used wide beads in red for a chunky look. Then I added in various types of metal beads -- some small alternating color heart ones in the extension, and wide silver and brass ones to echo the pendant metals.

October 2025 Crafting Check In
Oct. 22nd, 2025 12:02 pm
If you've joined us since September, welcome!
This post is to prompt anyone who has been doing crafting lately to share about their projects. Plus there's a general question for everyone to chime in on.
This month's question involves buildup and storage of supplies. What do you save to use in future crafting projects? Does a lot of stuff accumulate? Do you have any organizational tips?

Slides as Pendants
Oct. 6th, 2025 02:23 pm
I have been posting daily over at
These two are ones I made last year. During a store closing I'd picked up a bunch of slides at a discounted rate but I don't tend to make bracelets which work particularly well with them. Many had been sitting around for some time, so I decided to use them as pendants when possible.

The wire tree over the shell pendant was a great look, in part because it cut down the iridescence of the backing. I decided to go with some soft pale blue stone, and then copper birds to match the wire tree. I also added in some faceted fire polish coins to echo the light-catching of the pendant. Strawberry Cheesecake Yarn
Sep. 10th, 2025 11:22 am
That was a very drawn out project I spun mostly on my EEW Nano wheel over the course of a couple of months. The base is a merino colourway by Woolfiend, plyed with Cobuger Fuchsschaf (top right), black merino (bottom right), grey Corriedale (bottom left) and grey Gotland fibre - it turned out so nice, I am super pleased. Despite the variety of fibre, it came out all about the same weight

Brightly Colored
Sep. 3rd, 2025 01:28 pm
Wore this one up top to a dentist appointment and the hygienist was enthusiastic about its colorfulness. The pendant on the bottom photo was a bookmark I was given. I don't read in paper for various reasons, and also don't like the kind that pin pages since it damages the books. It was a great color though, so decided to put it into a necklace. ( Read more... )
Holo Pendants
Aug. 28th, 2025 02:18 pm
Not sure what they're actually called but the center in the compass pendant and the oval one have what seems like a multicolored foil interior that looks orange, green or both depending on the light. You can see the orange a bit above and mostly green below. ( Read more... )
Gradations

Fancy and Plain

Some recent necklaces, a large one given the stone chunks, and a smaller one made for my partner (inspired by a Veronica Mars rewatch where it seemed virtually every male character wore some variation on this). ( Read more... )

Finally done with my biggest bookbinding project yet! One of my all-time favorite fics, Head In The Lion's Mouth by renwhit.
I'm really happy with how this came out. I knew I wanted wine and gold as the color scheme. The wine colored damask was a placemat that I harvested and scraped away a lot of deteriorated batting/filling from the inside. The gold is metallic ink that I mixed 1:1 Brass and Bronze, which ended up with a very nice antique gold look. The Brass on its own looks too yellow, especially on page edges.
The typesetting. I tried out being more creative this time 'round. I put in fancy first letters of each chapter, and effect I like a lot. There are sections of the fic that switch to being right-aligned, so I had to add all of that by hand.
The binding! Despite the thickness of the book, I went with my normal method (Sea Lemon's stitch) rather than attempting a curved spine. Unfortunately, somehow when I set the glue on the spine to dry, the text block was weirdly angled and dried uneven. Which meant I spent twice as long (more actually, but I'll get to that) sanding down the edges to be even.
For doing the edges, I tried out applying the metallic ink with a brush (bad idea #1) and sealing it in with beeswax (bad idea #2). It looked good in the press, but when I cracked the pages, it became an uneven ugly mess. That meant...more sanding! Another half hour of sanding later, I did my normal technique of applying the ink with a piece of cloth (so it's drier than with a brush) and leaving it at that.
The title plate. Originally, I wanted to try using an iron-on sheet, but I couldn't get it to peel. Instead, I used normal paper with a single layer of varnish to give it a hint of water resistance and glued it on.
The splatter really added the verve and spunk the book needed. While Danny has wine red blood that splatters on a gold-toed shoe, this book cover inverts it! The wine red is a little more purple than the photos capture.

Cross Stitch Seashells
Jul. 31st, 2025 09:12 pmI finished these a few weeks back but only just got around to taking photographs a few days ago. Nevertheless, as promised, here are pics of the 6 seashell designs I stitched. I used 18 count antique white aida for these, and a single strand of thread, to make the designs small enough for use on greetings cards. Size wise, they're approximately 13.5 by 10 cm. The square one is obviously smaller. Putting both pics behind a cut for size reasons.
Anime earrings
Jul. 21st, 2025 09:35 pm

I only made one of the leftmost earrings cus it's a pain working with clear shrinky-dink plastic lol (I also only had one red drop bead but that's a different problem)

Wood Discs and Amazonite Gold
Jul. 11th, 2025 12:13 pm
Some short necklaces in brown and gold. Up top wood, amazonite and metal balls. Below the cut wood discs with glass studded metal beads and glass E beads. I had originally been thinking of this use for the wood discs until I found the pendant in my previous post.

Tiger's Eye Zig Zag & Stones and Shells
Jun. 24th, 2025 10:57 am
Wish the pendant had come out better in the photo, it's so pretty in person. But it's also easier to see the beading pattern and colors in the pic so I guess it works out. ( Read more... )
This was my first time doing a perfect bind (gluing the pages along the spine rather than sewing), and I think it went pretty well. I did about 4 layers of PVA glue, and it seems to be holding up well. This was also my first time adding a title to the cover. I used Black Sumi Ink and brushes to do the cover design with rubber bands around the book for the straight edges.
For the page edges, I did an extra sanding with the fine grit that really helped with the uneven flecks/scraps that I had on the last book.

Fanbinding: "mulberry down!!"
Jun. 20th, 2025 05:05 pm
I wanted to try out edge gilding (iron on). Sanding the edges fine and using a tiny iron helped, but it still came out pretty flaky and not even. I'm gonna mess around with the sanding more to avoid weird edges, and I'm gonna try using beeswax to seal it before flexing the pages.
This bind is a little wonky. The spine ended up angled, but I sanded the edges straight and then didn't align the cover properly. I'm still pleased with it though!

Beginning Bookbinding
Jun. 17th, 2025 01:22 pmI just started getting into bookbinding / fanbinding. I got really into it conceptually a couple years ago and bought all the supplies but didn't really do anything with them until now. I've been using Renegade Bindery's formatting tutorials and Sea Lemon's binding tutorials. It is tremendously fun. I've done the first couple (Fairgoers by renwhit and a collection of King Falls AM fics) with quilting cotton + heatnbond + tissue paper for book cloth, but I recently got a bunch of leather for free, so I may start experimenting with leather covers too using Ingenius Designs' tutorials.
On my docket is
- "mulberry down!!" by Nicole Kornher Stace, already printed and sewn with book cloth prepped, needs edge sanding
- "Ceylon, Assam, and Darjeeling" by Sciosa, currently working on formatting
- Something that will allow me to do a wacky patchwork style cover using scrap fabric sticking to the heatnbond to avoid having to sew it
- Working on figuring out iron-on page gilding. Probably needs edge sanding first as the unsanded paperback I tried it on didn't adhere evenly though the tiny iron helped.
- Acquire acid-free paper for prints going forward
